The successful cultivation of "Shendan No. 1 Quail" has filled the gap that China's quail industry has been lack of independent breeding varieties, which is of great significance to the development of quail breeding in China.

Quail and its egg products have extremely high nutritional value and medicinal value, and are praised as "animal ginseng" by "Compendium of Materia Medica". China's quail egg production accounts for about 20% of the world's total output, and it is the world's largest quail breeding country. At present, quail breeding industry has become the third largest poultry industry in China after chickens and ducks.

The development of the industry is inseparable from excellent breeds. As the state-owned enterprises and institutions that originally undertook the task of quail breeding withdrew from the quail breeding industry one after another before the 21st century, quail breeding is in a small, scattered and chaotic state among the people. Long-term self-breeding and self-breeding make the performance of quail gradually degenerate, and the production performance of commercial eggs is low, which can not meet the needs of breeding and processing enterprises, which seriously hinders the development of quail breeding industry. The selection and promotion of excellent quail varieties has become an urgent need for the sustainable development of quail breeding industry. Since 1994, Hubei Shendan Health Food Co., Ltd. and the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Research Institute of Hubei Academy of Agricultural Sciences have jointly carried out the systematic breeding of egg quails.

The "Shendan No. 1 Quail" supporting system is an egg quail supporting system jointly cultivated by Hubei Shendan Health Food Co., Ltd. and the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Research Institute of Hubei Academy of Agricultural Sciences for 8 years. It is the establishment of the National Livestock and Poultry Genetic Resources Commission in 1996. The first supporting system of new livestock and poultry varieties approved by the state in Hubei Province is also the first supporting system of new quail varieties in my country.

The matching system of "Shendan No. 1 Quail" has the characteristics of small size, less material consumption, high egg laying rate, good egg quality and suitable for processing, genetic stability of variety performance, good population uniformity, etc. Its commercial quail brooding survival rate is 95%, the age of opening is 43-47 days, the number of quails laid at 35 weeks old is 155-165, the average egg weight is 10-11g, the average daily material consumption is 21-24g, and the feed conversion ratio is 2. 5-2. 7,35 weekend weight 150-170 grams. Compared with similar quails on the market, it can greatly reduce production costs and improve production efficiency, and has broad prospects for popularization and application.
