At a press conference held by the National People's Congress on the morning of February 28, Xin Chunying, deputy director of the Legislative Affairs Committee of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, answered questions from reporters on the legislative process of the food safety law and other related issues. Xin Chunying said that because it involves the interests of every citizen, the passage of the Food Safety Law can be described as "a sword in five years".
In view of the fact that there were many different standards in China's food management before this, such as quality standards and hygiene standards, and each department separately formulated its own relevant standards, Xin Chunying said that the food safety law clearly stipulates that "all standards related to food safety are unified as national food safety standards, which is very beneficial to the management of food safety in our country."
Melamine, OMP... In response to these words that have been frequently exposed by the media recently, Xin Chunying said that the Food Safety Law clearly stipulates that the state implements a licensing system for the production of food additives, and those without permission cannot be added as additives. According to the Food Safety Law, applying for a license must first go through a risk assessment. At the same time, it is further stipulated that food additives should be technically necessary and proven to be safe and reliable through risk assessment. "There are some food additives that are not necessarily technically necessary. For example, a lot of flour is now added with whitening agents and fluorescent agents. Some people say that this is not harmful to the body, but according to the provisions of the Food Safety Law, as long as it is not technically necessary, do not add it."
